The Greater Springfield Partnership and the City of Springfield hosted the Mid-America EDC Conference July 13 - 15th, showcasing the city’s significant growth and highlighting best practices other Mid-America communities can incorporate into their strategic planning.

“We were privileged to host the Mid-America EDC, fellow members, insightful speakers and sponsors. Mid-America EDC is composed of leaders focused on making an impact for their communities,” said Horton Hobbs IV, Vice President of Economic Development for Greater Springfield Partnership. “We have had that same focus in Springfield and the results have been phenomenal. Being able to showcase the growth of our community, our beautifully renovated downtown and growing industry sector was the highlight for us.”

And Springfield has grown. With the formation of the Greater Springfield Partnership the community was able to raise $4 million in investment for economic development, attraction and workforce development activities. “Our community has invested in itself and we are grateful for the commitment of our investors. Their commitment has allowed us to attract new businesses like Gabes - a company creating 800 jobs in Clark County,” said Mike McDorman, President & CEO

The Greater Springfield Partnership has also provided support and resources to help existing businesses grow. “Springfield has always had a strong manufacturing sector. From homegrown companies to international businesses, we are a hub for reliable manufacturing because of our pro-business ecosystem, strategic location and strong workforce. The Partnership is committed to enhancing those strengths for the betterment of all businesses locating here,” said Hobbs. “At the Mid-America EDC Conference we were able to share some of our success stories and strategies so that other communities can leverage what works.”

Springfield has also undergone significant redevelopment and growth in the downtown area. Major investors have taken vacant or underutilized buildings and turned them into retail, business and dining centers. Co-working spaces, live entertainment and startups have sprouted all over downtown. “Springfield is impressive. Their downtown is a fun place to spend time and has been completely revitalized. They are a true success story. Springfield is an example of what you can accomplish in a decade with the right team of dedicated leaders,” said John Marshall, President of Golden Shovel Agency.
