Department of Energy driving automotive innovation

For as long as I can remember, I had a fascination with cars and the automotive industry. My father was a service manager at a Ford Motor Company dealership. One of my first “jobs” was putting the shiny hubcaps back on a finished car with my brother for 25 cents apiece.
Years later, as a staff member on Capitol Hill, I worked on automotive safety issues and eventually followed in my father’s footsteps, working for Ford. In my time at Ford, I worked on projects ranging from hydrogen cars and hybrids to autonomous vehicles, while also working a rotation on the factory floor.
