Summit will focus on all things food in Clark County

Wednesday, November 22, 2017

An event focusing on local foods will be held in Springfield again, talking about everything from why bees are important to a downtown marketplace.

The fourth annual Local Food Summit was held on Nov. 4 at Springfield High School, 701 E. Home Road.

A local food council was proposed at the summit in previous years and is now in the developing stages, said Pam Bennett, director of the Ohio State University Extension in Clark County. An active city market committee is also exploring developing a year-round market-place at the former Myers Market downtown, she said.

“We’re bringing people together and synergizing our efforts,” Bennett said. “It’s a great team effort.”

Attendees were provided an update on the food council, as well as the Community Health Improvement Plan, Bennett said. About 100 people attended the event last year.

"It’s focusing on all things food,” Bennett said. “Anything that has to do with health, healthy eating or purchasing local foods.”
