McGregor Metalworking Companies has been an anchor in Springfield and Clark County for over 57 years. With over 350 employees, they are deeply rooted in the community and have benefited from generations of Springfield residents making their career at McGregor. They are truly an excellent example of American manufacturing. But, like all manufacturers, they need a steady supply of new talent to make their company run. The Greater Springfield Partnership’s internship program is one of the ways they build their talent pipeline.

Jeannie Seery, HR Manager for McGregor Metalworking Companies, said, “The internship program offers paid internships for students where they gain skills and knowledge while working with mentors.” She continued, “The change you see from when interns come in and the skills they have at the end of summer is amazing. The transformation after gaining knowledge and skills is truly remarkable.”

McGregor has experienced much success with the internship program and uses it as a way to attract talent that they can hire right away, while also exposing students to the opportunities that exist long-term at the company. In addition to hiring engineers and operators, they also have positions open in sales and network engineering. In other words, there are opportunities for all skill sets at Springfield manufacturing companies.

Jeannie Seery appreciates that she has the opportunity to create this awareness at a young age. While most interns start when they are in high school and college she has worked with the Greater Springfield Partnership to reach students in the eighth grade - a time when kids start to get curious about their future. “One of my favorite events is the eighth grade exploration days. Students can find out what industry they are interested in and some will return for high school internships and adult job fairs as they get older. It’s a great way to introduce McGregor Metalworking Companies to our local youth.”

The company has also worked with Ohio Means Jobs. “We have used their on the job training plans. Our employers get trained by mentors and they pay for up to half of their wages. They also have recruiters on site to help us if we are looking for specific jobs,” said Seery.

All Springfield companies qualify for assistance from Greater Springfield Partnership and Ohio Means Jobs. For assistance in finding interns or adult candidates, contact us.
